Thanks Cali! As I mentioned in another thread, I am definitely a fan of Jason and Pharis Romero. Have been for a few years now. I first discovered them thru a banjo musician's group that I am a part of. Since that time I have had a "Banjos to own" bucket list and one of Jason Romero's banjos is one of them. But I tell myself I must become a much better player before I can reward myself with one of those! Here is an old tune called "Quince Dillon's High D" being played on a Jason Romero banjo by an excellent fellow clawhammer banjo player. The sound and tone of his banjos...just unbelieveably beautiful! Quince Dillon's High D on a Romero Banjo
By the way, Cali, did you know that you can get "close" to playing banjo if you take up the Uke? If you learn on the Uke, they make something called Banjolele's which are similar to banjos but play like a uke. They are also called Banjo-ukes. Thanks again Cali! Moose

Moose, thanks for the video. It was a lovely way to start my day! As for the banjolele, I first heard of it last week. I was wondering what the heck it was. Now I know! If you ever notice a banjo-uke being played on MCR, please point it out to us.

Sure, I will mention it, if I see it MCR's stage! Clogger wants one really bad. But a cheap one starts out in the $300 range. She'd have to do a lot of chores to get that down! ha. If you go too cheap, might be hard to keep in tun while you are trying to play....or dificult to play all around. Here is a Banjo-uke video to inspire you Cali! Aaron Keim is one of our favorite uke players as well as banjo-uke players that we enjoy hearing. He, not too much unlike Jason Romero, is a luthier who makes ukes, banjo-ukes and banjos in his own company along with his wife, Nicole Keim. They also make great music together. Here is the link: Aaron Keim Banjo Uke

Moose, thanks so much for posting these links. I LOVE the sound of Aaron's banjo-uke. As Jim L. might say, "Now THAT'S Americana!" I also love the video of Aaron and Nicole and their band. They would be GREAT on MCR. I'm happy to see that they're from Hood River, Oregon, but embarrassed to admit that I've never heard of them before (I really do need to get out more). I'm going to have to check out more videos of these folks. I see that there are a bunch available on YouTube. This one really appealed to me (the birds in the video liked it too -- they were singing along): www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf1nkxp6P94&list=UU7gA0HOE5u3a0eli3lXZm8QThanks again for turning me on to these folks!

Lizzy; Thanks for the Banjer vids! Always enjoy hearing/watching those! Cali; Of course, you are welcome for the Aaron & Nicole Keim info. Cassidy found Aaron playing uke on YouTube several years ago while she was still in the beginning/learning stages of playing her ukulele. And, we have been following them ever since. I don't have any of their CDs.....YET....but will soon I hope! We are always looking for those "off the beaten track" kind of musicians. You can find some real gems if you take the time to dig and look around! That is why we like MCR too. Lots of stuff you never hear on commercial radio. Lots of unique folks out there making real music. Moose

Lizzy, I totally agree that the video rocks. "The Cowboy Waltz" melody reminds me of the old trail song, "Cattle Call". I'm sure you've heard it by Eddy Arnold; his is the version I grew up with. I always have loved the line "He's brown as a berry from ridin' the prairie". When I was a little kid growing up in Riverside, in the summer my siblings and I were "brown as berries" from playing outside all day in the SoCal sun. That was the closest we actually got to a prairie, in SoCal at least. Here's Eddy Arnold's version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz90Cur_1cU

Thanks Lizzy...they sure broke the mold when they made Johnny Cash! Never will be another like him. I really like that first song he does on that video. I kinda want to put it on the "bucket list" of songs I want to learn to play on my banjer. The 2nd song, "Get Rhythm" Cloggercass and I clogged to in our stage shows! Great song! Thanks Lizzy (Who rocks!) Moose
