Just wanted to briefly explain my extended absence from MCR and say how nice it was to come aboard the yacht last week and receive everyone's warm greetings. Of course, I was heartbroken to hear of Art's passing, but know he is in a better place, free from pain. I've been scarce in summers past, too. Taking some vacation time and choosing to listen to streams from all the jam bands that tour in the summer causes me to miss lots of MCR Wednesdays. This year I was all set to get back in the saddle and tune in on Sept. 13 at the time of the Americana Awards. When I realized it wasn't on that night, I planned to listen in on Thursday Sept. 14. The dates are clear to me because on the morning of Sept. 14 I was unexpectedly laid off from my job as a newspaper reporter for a small daily newspaper after 18 years of giving my heart and soul to the job. I expected that it was coming someday, because that is a failing industry and many of my colleagues had already met the same fate. But I didn't expect it this year. So it was a gut punch, and it, coupled with some other stuff, made it difficult to get me back into the mood of being my hat-and-beard-counting self, if you know what I mean. Luckily I have a very supportive wife (Homey J) and I know that I'll soon be back on my feet. But I'm in no hurry to go back to work ... still need some time to plot a course for the future. So thanks again for welcoming home this "Wayfaring Stranger" www.youtube.com/watch?v=k20bNYzQXs4

Hey Terrapin! Glad to have you back but also sick over the fact that you are finding yourself in such a predicament. My husband, Richard (Mr Moose) was told in May that his position was ending also as of August 1st of this year. He has been there close to 30 years! In his case, it is as a manufacturing supervisor. However, the trend of things is to do away with supervisors and let the employees govern themselves with various algorithms. Well, this was devastating to us, since as you may know, we are still dealing with so many medical bills from my cancer fight. The last thing I wanted to worry about was having to change insurance in the middle of treatment. In our case, God is good and Richard was given an unexpected reprieve. While jobs are plentiful here, that also means a lot of manufacturing plants are experiencing employee shortages and many employees are job hopping to find better wages. So because of that, they have put the elimination of his position on hold for now. We were in a predicament that seems to be working itself out. We will pray for you and your situation and you see where you will want to focus your attention to this next chapter of your life. I'm so glad you have a supporting wife! We wives are awesome like that! haha! I'll bet there's something exciting around the bend.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad things working out for you and Mr. Moose. It's the way of the world. I'm youngest of 3, and same thing happened to older brother and sis in past few years. At a certain age in this greedy world we become disposable. I am lucky to have a supportive wife and kids, a devoted dog and hungry cats. I've got plenty of tricks up my sleeve, so we will survive.
