We have been waiting a long time to get the chance (or in our case, to find time) to attend a concert by Rik and Dave. These gentlemen are Canadian guitarists who do everything from blues, jazz, rock, flamenco..etc......Just a lot of different styles. They are very good at what they do. Cassidy has been fortunate to have been able to talk (internet) with Mr Emmett on occasions over the last 2 years. Here are a couple of videos showcasing each one of the two. Rik Emmett singing Hold On
Dave Dunlop singing Only Time Will TellWe'll post up a full review after the concert!

Cali, we drove 13 hours on Friday to New Jersey for this Saturday concert! And 13 1/4 hours back home on Sunday. Oh my! It was SOOOOO worth it!!! If the artist himself gives us permission to do so, we will post up a video from the concert. I will get more info up here as soon as I have more time. Really be super busy today as we got back so late last night. So trying to play catch up!

Yes, this man is Cassidy's inspiration for loving music AND playing the guitar. Here is one video posted by someone in the audience; Magic Power
Cassidy was able to talk with him and it really made her day. He seems like a really nice person.

Well, here goes my first concert review for the MCR Fan Forum and it is of a Rik Emmett & Dave Dunlop Duo show. How neat ! We drove over 1300 miles and spent a total of 26 hours in the van to get to this show, but it was well worth every minute of it! Mr Moose even agreed and he is not even a music-person. So if he was drawn in, then the performace was great and the band has done an outstanding job! He said he would do it again. And maybe we will, if there is a repeat performance of this act at this venue next year. The opening act for this great show was a local group we'd never heard of before Maniac and the Mentally Unstable, but they won us over in quick order. Cam, the front man for the group did a great job singing and the guys who played with him did great. They all played together well. And Cassidy was very delighted to hear Their Triumph cover tune. I don't know the answer, but I kind of wonder if that song ever was done live "back in the day"? Probably not, I'd venture to guess! But we enjoyed hearing these guys play and it was over all too soon. And Rik and Dave's performance. Wow. Wow! WOW!!!! I must say to all the Rik Emmett fans who have yet to see him live....you really must consider it. I cannot believe we put it off this long. I cannot believe that we deprived ourselves of the joy of one of these shows! This is my best analogy; When you live in an area like I do...and you travel to somewhere mountainous....and you are really gasping with awe at the terrain, the beauty of the mountains and all that goes with it; the waterfalls, the soaring peaks, the tall spindly pines, the boulders and other rocks that jut out. Well, you photograph them. But when you get home, the pictures do not do justice to what you experienced. It falls flat. Watching Rik and Dave are like that. You can watch them on YouTube videos all day long and not get anywhere near the essence of a live show! I mean wow! The power and the energy that these two men posses on stage is so wonderful and fascinating! We were all three blown away. Big time! And to top it off, many of our favorites were in the set list. But I think my favorite selection played Saturday was El Cuento Del Gadjo! Rik and Dave put the scald on it with that one! Here was one of my favorite songs performed that night. What a performance! El Cuento Del Gadjo
The guys always have fun doing this difficult guitar piece for the crowd. Midsummer's Daydream
I love the duo-singing on this song. Light Of Day (Cool song!!)
I really hope that one day these two will get some regular dates to play closer to my midwest home. Would always be a great night of music! These guys play with pure passion and just set the stage on fire! (As Jim would say...they put the scald on it

Well, it is worth it to drive that far to hear Mr Emmett play. As talented as he is, I don't think a lot of folks are into booking a guitarist from Canada. We are going to try and see if we can get him booked somewhere round here. We want to talk with some area places that bring in artists and see what happens. As for Mr Moose....no, no, no. He is still not a music person. But that is OK because when we listen to music at home or in the truck....for the most part he does not care what we want to play so that is cool. So there are no fight about that. (Mr Moose is not an argumentative person anyhow) That link you posted up was of Rik at this same venue last year! Pretty cool, huh? This venue is actually some sort of lodge and holds about 250 audience members. This is a fund raiser for a childhood cancer aid group. A very worthy cause. This performance was a dinner buffet and a concert by Rik & Dave as well as raffled items. IF they hold it again next year, we are definitely going to consider going. By the way...not sure I'm buying the name change from Cuento! haha.......nice try! I told Mr Moose that he rocked...Mr Moose just smiled, shook his head and said to "tell Lizzy Thanks and Hello"

Lizzy I read an interesting interview with Steve Morris once where he credited Rik with getting him more encouraged to play more acoustically.
