Howdy folks , I finally got round to joining the MCR fan forum , well done clogger for setting this up . I live in the UK and have been watching the shows and chatting with you pirates for a quite awhile on wednesday nights . Y,all rock . there is a great mutual respect between everybody for their love and appreciation of good music . It has restored my faith in human nature , I listen to and am constantly searching for new music to enjoy , hence my reason for watching MCR and joining this forum . I have beeen learning to play bluegrass guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and bass for two years now , and have never been happier playing sad songs at warp speed .

Thanks so much Pick, for joining up here! So glad to have you on board with the rest of us "Pirates"! ha. And I love your line....sad songs a warp speed..." ha!! How true it is! Yes, Cass and I have "attended" many online streaming venues and we must say that MCR draws the nicest, most respectful audiences. It is such a pleasure to be able to chat with you, and the rest who call MCR "home" on Wednesday nights. It is shameful that our world leaders don't wake up and realize how music draws us together regardless of what country's border surrounds us! So glad to count you as one among us ! Ellen, AKA Moose

Pickinmick, I also like that avatar, "Bluegrass Police" ! If I should accidentally plug my banjo in, you can promptly correct my infraction!

Hello all, I joined at the urging of 1ThinLizzy, and hope to remember / have time to check in. Just depends as I catch a lot of streams while at work. (I'm on concert window as Helenrr27 ). I am 53, live in California ( Monterey County), married, have 3 grown kids... homeschooled them etc etc, Now I work in the family geotechnical firm, cook/garden/try to get back to my art and play the fiddle. I work with John Weed of Molly's Revenge / Little Black Train etc. I play Trad and Old Time with some bluegrass and such. Always love to learn more - and interested in picking up a bit of clogging (had done Irish/Nova Scotia). My husband and I attend Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival And Parkfield Bluegrass Festival among others... love to catch live music when we can (or a good stream). I have listened to/ watched MCR at work on and off for years but haven't really gone into chat (depends on my time). So I'll try to hop in often! Helen

Glad to have you aboard Helen! I think you will fit in here just fine! I HS Clogger Cass who is the Admin of this site! She is a big music lover/plays guitar & uke. (And now learning Keys) She and I also clog! Maybe we can clog together virtually? ha! So do you teach fiddle? Is that what you mean by you "work with John Weed"? I just recently got a new fiddle but it has been too long since I played so it is like starting out all over again for me. Time is my big enemy! But I will get there maybe this winter, when things slow down for us, and get back up to speed. We do concert window sometimes! I'll watch for you! I am the same on Concert Window as I am in MCR. Thanks for joining us here! Looking forward to your conversations!

Thanks laughingmooseinn! yes, virtual clogging I'm going to put together some collections that get my feet going, good exercise and maybe I can refresh my memory! Never a bad thing. I don't teach fiddle, though if I had a beginner I could... I learn from and play with John. I was in a hurry and couldn't figure out how to word that - sorry for the confusion. We have a weekly session which is more about playing than learning, then I take lessons. I know how time is, I haven't got a lot of time to practice/play, but I do my best every day. I'll look for you on CW too.

Last time Clogger and I were on Concert window, we watched Steep Canon Rangers with Chef Dave from MCR chat. Great show! We always keep our eyes open to see what is coming up there. See ya around the chat and the forum here! Ellen....aka.."Moose"

Hey folks! I've been in & out at MCR over the last couple of years, but this is the first I've known of the forum. Wonderful show every week! You may have seen me under either mandojeff or Jeff Miller on chat. It's always a lot of fun listening to great music and chatting with folks about what's going on in their worlds. I write about music & the arts at my website: www.flashpointarts.org and I make a little music- singing & playing guitar/mandolin whenever I can. I live in Alabama. I listen to a lot of genres, but my core would contain folks like: Tony Rice, Alison Krauss, Del McCoury, Van Morrison, Beethoven, Merle Haggard, Howlin Wolf, The Everly Brothers, The Mavericks, Bruckner, Gretchen Peters, Josquin Des Prez, Eric Clapton & Don Williams. Anyway, I hope to see y'all around at MCR shows. JM

Thanks for joining up! We are glad to have you. It hasn't been real chatty here in the forum this summer what with a lot of folks ill or busy. ..but it sure is handy to have this forum for those of us who don't do FB. We can come here and leave a quick link or other info for folks that we can't put into our chat at the show. And many of us have connecte4d here thru messaging to connect eve further outside of MCR. All rooted in our love of music, of course. Glad to have you on board here. We'll def check out your link! Moose (Ellen) BTW, this forum isn't an official Music City Roots forum..one of the chatters made this...Clogger Cass in fact. But there are a few MCR alumni who have joined up. Now if we could only get them to come here more often and join in! Look around and jump into one of our many ongoing conversations!

Welcome, Jeff! we're glad to have you! We've all been busy but we're still chatting! Yes, I made this forum actually! I don't need that much credit though. The idea was Moose's at first, and ProBoards.com allowed me to make this for free. MCR isn't affiliated with this but I do think they know about it. Hope to see ya at MCR and around the forum!

Hi there! It's Maddie. I was in the live stream chat yesterday and last Thursday for IBMA. Nice to meet you all!
I teach fifth and sixth graders to play violins, violas and cellos. It's my dream job because I love looking for ways to teach them to listen more deeply and express themselves creatively through their instrument. In interacting with my students I am also constantly reminded of all the general life skills they are getting through their music education that you just don't get in the same way from other subjects.
In my spare time, I play violin in two jazz groups - one large and one small - and I *attempt* to fiddle in a bluegrass quintet.
Guess I caught the bluegrass/roots music bug when on a whim I bought the live dvd of Steve Martin, Edie Brickell and Steep Canyon Rangers at my local record store. It was on display, and for whatever reason I bought it. I really liked Steve and Edie's songs, but I immediately loooooved SCR's two songs without Steve ("Stand and Deliver" and "Hunger"). A year and a half later, I've seen SCR 13 times in 3 states (CA, AZ and NC). Other groups/musicians I love are Songs From the Road Band, Mandolin Orange, Jonathan Byrd, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Della Mae, The Lone Bellow, Punch Brothers, Elephant Revival and the Student Loans. In the jazz realm, Regina Carter is my current favorite.
I post pretty regularly on the Fans of the Steep Canyon Rangers Facebook page, which I won't link to here because I'm brand new and haven't read your rules about promotion/linking yet.
Looking forward to joining the forum and continuing the Wednesday weekly concert chats!
Yours,
Maddie
