hi, this is knot, i haven't been around much lately. the demons finally got me this past summer. i sought out some help and they ended up keeping me. i am a viet nam veteran. i thought i was doing fine but actually wasn't. i am dealing with some stuff from my past that has "played with my mind." a friend told me to have my "ptsd" checked out and "get a check" well in addition to that i have agent orange exposure. i still have my mountain home, my kids are maintaining it for me while i am away. life is good but different right now. i miss the music and conversations on mcr. Good to meet you knot. I was in during the same era. 71-75. Never went to Nam but a lot of friends did. Music seems to sooth the soul as do the friendships. Happy Thanksgiving! Art

Moose, I teach High School students who are severely cognitively challenged complicated by multiple issues (physical, sensory, communication and emotional). Music and empathy are my strongest tools. We have a good time and enjoy helping them mature and improve their quality of life Funny that I felt a connection immediately with you, Moose. There's the laf/laugh thing and the moose thing (my parents are from Northern Maine and live there part time in their retirement years) and I loved living in Michigan when I was in Grand Rapids. Thanks for the welcome! What grade do you teach? Linda Linda; What a wonderful calling you have to teach these children! Music sure can bridge so many disabilities and differences. My Step-Grandmother developed a form of dementia in her final years here on earth. While she did not seem to know up from down...put on her favorite music and she seemed to calm down, listen, follow along and enjoy it. There is a quote from one of mine and Clogger's favorite lyrics that goes like this: "Music holds the secret, to know it can make you whole. It's not just a game of notes, it's the sound inside your soul." Well, you may have noticed that I included a smiley face after I mentioned that I teach too....I teach 8th grade this year, but will teach 9th next. But in actuality, Clogger is home schooled and I am her teacher. Although I live in Michigan, I am a Hoosier at heart. My husband and I find Michigan quite expensive to live in! We really got sticker shock on everything when we got here!!!! We are on a temporary foray for a few years to live here....on our way back to Indiana as soon as we can. Michigan has many beautiful areas tho. Moose

Hi Everyone, I finally got around to joining the forum. My name is Kerrie, I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. I am a full-time shift worker, so I miss some shows, if I am working or sleeping. MCR is on at 10am or 11am Thursday, my time. I am a dispatcher and emergency calltaker for the police service here, but hopefully only for another 2-3 years then I can retire and devote myself to some serious laying about.

Hi Kerrie! Glad to see you join us here! If you poke around a bit, you'll see we are all crazy bout music and love to talk about it or anything even remotely music related! And you might get the "award" for being the member from furthest away! (If we had one, ha ha.) Interesting that you do what we call an "emergency dispatcher" here. Years ago...before I was married and before my daughter was born I actually worked on an EMS or ambulance-fire department. So I was one of those people you would have sent out on emergencies. What an exciting field to work in, huh? I always felt like I was on the "front lines" of everything that was happening. So glad to meet you here!
Moose (Also known as my real name, Ellen)

Hi Ellen, thanks for the welcome. I read that you are from Indiana and now live in Michigan. Those are 2 of the states I visited when I came over there a few years ago. I have family I stayed with in Indiana, near the Kentucky border, not far from Louisville and a friend I stayed with in Michigan, near Ann Arbor. Between them they took me on a road trip from Mackinac Island, to Florida and up to Canada also. I had a great time for almost 2 months and fell in love with everything. I will be back one day, and MCR is on my bucket list when I do.
Kerrie

How cool Kerrie! Yes, there are some beautiful spots round here. I love living rural where I feel most of the beauty can be found. I am glad you got to visit these areas and hopefully you will get to get back to the states one day soon! I have family who live not too far from where you stayed in Southern Indiana. They live in the Jerusalem Ridge area of Kentucky, the birthplace of Bill Monroe! The festival they have there each year is on my bucket list of places to visit. I have visited my cousins there a lot, but not the festival. Gee, it's a small world after all!

I live in Nelson, BC. Self-employed as much as possible cleaning and doing odds and ends for seniors in the area. Great need for people who do that here. Currently separated. 2 girls, one of whom lives with me as does their dad (stupidest thing I ever did was feel sorry for him) Anyway, I deal with it till the end of October and then he's outta here. Oldest girl lives on the coast, has her bachelor's degree in archeology and is currently doing the nursing program at BCIT. She's done her first year in the program and managed to pass. Me, I'll retire in a few years with any luck at all and will just spend all my time in my garden and sittin on my duff crocheting. It's a great place to live here, beautiful, surrounded my mountains. Would love to be further north but that'll be on my bucket list.

Moose (Ellen, actually, but everyone calls me Moose Forgot all about this part! Thanks for the welcome, Moose. Real name is Jill Wilson. I actually was born and basically raised in Illinois, around Champaign Urbana. We lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, back to West Virginia and then back to Illinois all from the time I was from Gr. 3 to Gr. 9! My dad worked for billboard companies and just transferred alot. I did live in Florida for 6 months in the 80's. Haven't been back to the U.S. since my oldest (27) was a year and a half. Love it here. Would like to visit my cousin who is in Mingo Fishtrap and some friends I have outside the San Francisco area but with no passport, it isn't likely to happen. It was great to read everyone's post about themselves. See you in the general chat room or next week at mcr!
