The movie, "Muscle Shoals", about the FAME Studios recording scene, opened today, Nov. 15. Here's some info: www.magpictures.com/profile.aspx?id=827e9dcf-98b7-4b01-a504-81bdf2f9acb7You all have probably figgered out that I LOVE soul music, so I, of course, will be seeing this movie tomorrow night. I'll let you all know how I liked the movie. I'm hoping to meet some local soul music enthusiasts at tomorrow night's showing -- hope I'm not disappointed. Cali

Hey folks, I saw the movie, "Muscle Shoals", last night and loved it. I learned a lot, including how Duane Allman got started playing bottleneck guitar, but I realize that this is just the start of my Muscle Shoals/Swampers/FAME Gang education. SO much great music came out of FAME Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. Did you know that Bob Seger recorded there, as well as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Traffic, the Rolling Stones, the Osmonds(!), and many, many others? My favorite tracks are the swampy soul, horn-laden, funked out groove fests. Here are a few: Jimmy Hughes ~ "Steal Away" (Etta James also does a killer version of this song) www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBozxCs3yFkAretha Franklin ~ "I Never Loved a Man (the Way I Love You)" www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxb-9p5hdRYEtta James ~ "The Same Rope" www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEEEKnloYjEThe Staple Singers ~ "I'll Take You There" www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO0Q3192JrsCandi Staton - "I'm Just A Prisoner (Of Your Good Lovin')" www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGEnfkfM_38If you love American music and American music history, I strongly encourage you to see this movie. I saw it in a movie theater, but it is also available on ON DEMAND. I'll be waiting for its DVD release -- this is a film that I NEED to add to my DVD music collection. Cali P.S. Some of these tracks were in the movie, others weren't, but they were all recorded in Muscle Shoals.
