In tonight's chat room, Moose mentioned that some guitar and banjo players have fake fingernails applied to use as 'built in' picks. Bananabenda remembered that there was a video on YouTube of James Taylor showing how to do this. Here's the video: Lesson 1b: "NAILS 101" (HD) - Official James Taylor Guitar Lessons www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BqISqpMRo8Here's a horror story with a happy ending: Fake Nails For Guitar Players www.youtube.com/watch?v=vreDJqcPBX4Superglue for nails? LVS keeps a tube at home, another tube in her purse, and another tube in her truck. I can't tell you how many times we've had to retrace her steps to find a 'nail' that popped off so she can glue it back on. BTW, her nails are real, but she uses 18 coats of polish and that kind of turns into a fake nail. Sally Beauty Supply? Yep, that's where LVS buys acetone (nail polish remover) by the gallon.

If you ever see Doyle Dykes- he uses nails & glue (or he did a few years back, at least). Some sort of superglue/epoxy type stuff. If I thought I could do half of what he does, I'd glue nails- no doubt. Phenomenal.

You know, for a lady, strangely, I've never been one to worry about my nails. I was raised with 5 boys/no sisters, so nails were always the last thing on my mind! In playing claw, I usually use my first two right hand fingers for string striking. I do break these often, but I still seem to be able to play. And I try to eat right so they grow back quickly! I may be in my 70's or 80's someday and getting my first fake nails! ha! Doyle is new to me...WOW! I just checked him out on you tube! I better put a vid of him in the Great Guitar Player Thread!!
