A group of us from Columbia, SC and Chicago and Iowa are meeting in Nashville next week (Sun - Sun) for Americana Week (hope to meet up with DianaLinn too)! Cathy, Doug, and I from the chat room along with some other wonderful folks will be spending the week reuniting with our musician friends from Nashville as well as checking out many of the other musicians making their way to Nashville for their showcases, held in venues all over town. So far, we don't think we will be able to get tix to the Awards show on Wednesday night, but it will be broadcast live via Folk Alley/NPR so we hope to record it somehow. Check out www.folkalley.com/ for the live broadcast link - I watched it two years ago and the video was great quality! Here's the Folk Alley press release:
On Sept. 17, Folk Alley will once again make the trip to Nashville to webcast the Americana Music Association Honors and Awards ceremony LIVE from the historic Ryman Auditorium. The iconic Jim Lauderdale hosts and the phenomenal Buddy Miller leads the all-star house band with performances by Loretta Lynn, Flaco Jimenez, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne and lots more.
Folk Alley joins with NPR Music to webcast the celebration of all things Americana LIVE on Sept. 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00pm PT. This year, you'll have your choice of either listening (audio-only) to the awards show in the Folk Alley stream OR watching a LIVE video webcast! Award nominees including Robert Ellis, Rosanne Cash, Jason Isbell, Rodney Crowell, Sarah Jarosz, the Avett Brothers, the Devil Makes Three, Lake Street Dive, Patty Griffin, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Parker Millsap, the Milk Carton Kids and other top names.
Follow Folk Alley on Twitter and like us on Facebook to keep up with the latest on performers and festival events.
There is a great lineup at The Family Wash that night, too, so we'll likely go there and then hit the Awards show after-party later. Thursday night is totally crazy, with so many of our favorites playing everywhere at once! As much as we want to go to MCR, it's so far away from all the other showcases that it will be a stretch to make it, but we'll try. (Plus, we will probably end up splitting up at times since there are 10 of us and well, you know...herding cats and all....) Then, Fri, Sat, and even Sunday before we leave are packed with more acts than I can count. Whew!
BUT, I would love for y'all to look at this schedule and give me your input on your "must sees". There are so many acts that I can't remember if I've seen them before on MCR or elsewhere and I don't have time to check them all out ahead of time. So, if you have suggestions, I'm all ears! We will have armbands, but not conference badges, so that means we can see the artists color coded in blue or green, but not pink. Thanks! I'll try to let you know if we're gonna make it to MCR so you can look for us in the audience. Hope we can make it to check out the new digs, meet Dylan, and see the great acts that are scheduled! Here's the Americana (Official Showcase) Schedule:

And, in addition to the official showcases, there are plenty of non-official shows going on that we will be trying to squeeze in, as well! Busy week ahead - I better start getting ready!
(Scruggs and Bobbie will be in good hands with my capable pet-sitter!) Here they are while I was watching MCR tonight. I tried to fix their "flash eyes" without much success, but you get the idea... :-)
