Love RRE, would love to see them live someday. Fiddle player Tim Carbone is an awesome fiddle player. Todd has some great song/lyric writing skills too. They just came out with a new album and I hear it's great. I'll have to put it on my list...my ever-growing list!!! For those who don't know who RRE is, here is a clip of one of their older songs: Been Down That Road Before/ Railroad Earth

The farmhouse that you see the band recording in, was owned by Todd Scheaffer, the lead singer of the Railroad Earth. It was out on some acreage and a bit out of the way......the band would often practice there and write music. It had a name; Lone Croft. I believe that this home had even been in his family for many generations. One day the power company came thru and took the house and his property in Eminent Domain to erect huge transmission lines for electricity. He said he couldn't fight progress but was very sad to let it go. Of course, he had no choice. You'll hear this name, Lone Croft in their music too. In fact he wrote a song about the pain of having to give it up. You can hear it here; Lone Croft Farewell

Moose, what a sad story! I love old houses and buildings and hate to see well-loved ones that are still in good condition torn down. Here in Oregon, people will sometimes move an old building to a new location by loading it onto a flat bed trailer and hauling it to its new home. Many an old building has been saved this way, but I'm sure it isn't cheap. The most prominent example of this I can think of happened a number of years ago. It's called the Gordon House and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The new owners of the property upon which it was built planned to tear it down, until the Frank Lloyd Wright Conservancy got wind of their plans and intervened. It boggles my mind that anyone could even think of tearing down a Wright house -- what savagery! It was moved to the Oregon Garden and is open for tours. I haven't been there yet, but it's on my Ketchup List. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_House_(Silverton,_Oregon) Here's what Mr. L has to say on the subject of eminent domain: Jim Lauderdale ~ "You Ain't Gonna Cut No Highway Through My Home" www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikWeW-tL9xACali

Thanks for posting that Jim L song!! I LOVE it. Love the attitude with which he sings it too. I have never heard this one before. Jim sure surrounds himself with great musicians. They all put the ...ahem....as Jim would say........to borrow one of Mr L's phrases........they all sure put the scald on that one! I will have to go and do an internet search and see which album that tune comes off of.
