On this past week's MCR, Jim L. sang his song, "I Love You More", to open the show. After he finished, Keith commented on those "pretty fancy chords" and asked if he had rented them or bought them. Jim laughed and said he rented them -- it's cheaper. This got me to thinking about George Harrison and his own pretty fancy chords, which he referred to as 'naughty' chords. I always knew what George meant, although not on a technical level, because I'm not a musician. Those naughty chords made George's music so distinctive and instantly identifiable. Here's a link to the archived MCR show so you can hear the chords to which Keith was referring: www.livestream.com/musiccityroots/video?clipId=pla_a33dbacd-5bcb-4881-8e1a-e5b60e01ac3c&utm_source=lslibrary&utm_medium=ui-thumbI wanted to know more about George's naughty chords. I found this article that explains things a bit. I understood some of the music theory but not all of it. But I still found the article to be interesting. www.freewebs.com/extratexture/thesignaturesound.htmI can't say for sure, but these George Harrison-written songs sound to me like they have some naughty chords in them: "Something" www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrW7dlDHH28"Beware Of Darkness" www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPuFDaPC5XMNaughty chords rock!! We have some of these naughty chords on banjos too. ha ha. Great thread Cali! Clogger was taliking about chords she was trying to finger on her guitar. One of them was difficult and it was something to the effect of (I'm not exactly perfectly clear what she said at the time, but I'm getting this as close as I can) She said it was an "A7 diminished IIIrd with a flat tire" !! Too funny.
Lizzy, Clogger often tries to learn Tommy Shaw songs on her guitar and she says that he writes a lot of songs loaded with naughty chords! Lately she's been working on a Styx song called Brave New World.

Now that we're aware of naughty chords, we'll have to be on the lookout for them on MCR. Every time we hear one, everyone has to eat a moonshine cherry! Cali

Lizzy, I'm glad to hear that you ordered "Black Roses". I was listening to it today as I was driving around in my car and I think you'll really like it.
