In the chat room on Dec 18, a couple of people were talking about seeing the Blasters. Saw that they were doing a show out here (Southern California area) New Years Eve and had several questions.
Is this the same band that existed in the 80's/90's that always opened for X? How are they live? Thanks for the help. Looking forward to the next MCR and SCR. Take care all.

Aaron Aaron, I've sort of lost track of the Blasters and one reason for that is because they have had so many line-up changes over the years. I looked on their FB page and it looks like original Blasters Dave Alvin, Bill Bateman (drums), John Bazz (bass), and Gene Taylor (piano) were doing the Dec. shows. My understanding is that Gene Taylor, who now lives in Belgium, was visiting the U.S. and reunited with his Blasters brothers for several gigs. Missing, apparently, was Phil Alvin, who has had serious health problems in recent years. Also missing were saxophonists Lee Allen, who died in 1994, and Portland, OR, resident Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. The Blasters played in Portland, OR, last month and, as usual, opened for X. Wish I could have been there. Cali
